Community of the Month: Copperleaf

This family-friendly community is tucked in between Texas Township and the larger adjoining communities of Portage and Kalamazoo, offering top-notched schools and quick entry into some of Kalamazoo County’s most lovely nature preserves.
Copperleaf in the northwest corner of Portage makes travel easy among Kalamazoo County’s many diverse offerings – ranging from Western Michigan University to Al Sabo nature preserve. Close to Kalamazoo Valley Community College, shopping malls and districts and entertainment and dining. Meijer and Costco are and it’s an easy trip down Texas Drive to such restaurants as Bold and Fletchers. Just off of 12th Street, Copperleaf is also a straight shot down Milham Avenue from Portage Northern High School and the Crossroads Mall. Cultural activities and major road shows are frequent at WMU, and it’s a 10-minute drive from Kalamazoo’s downtown.
Copperleaf is located in the Portage Public Schools district which received “Academic State Champion” status from the Center for Michigan. Washington Post’s Best High School rankings included both Portage Central and Portage Northern High Schools. Angling Road Elementary, Portage Northern High School were rated 9 out of 10 by education.com. The schools offer traditional courses, International Baccalaureate curricula, online learning and special education. Students also have the opportunity to take part in Education for Employment for career and technical education.
