Community of the Month: The Sanctuary of Saugatuck

This secluded community, providing excellent schools, is surrounded by beauty on the edge of one of Michigan’s most popular arts community, along with Lake Michigan.

The Sanctuary of Saugatuck is across the street from Ravines Golf Club and an easy drive from all that Saugatuck and Douglas have to offer, including great dining options and exposure to the arts and outdoor recreation. Quaint shops, public beaches and superb restaurants, like Everyday People, are part of the attraction. Antiquing in the area is popular, and the summer comes alive with festivals and parades, live theater and excursions. The Venitian Festival, Jazz Festival, Douglas Octoberfest and Taste of Saugatuck are popular, as is the Fourth of July fireworks display on the Kalamazoo River.

Saugatuck is close enough to Kalamazoo and Grand Rapids to offer commuting options, and nearby Holland also offers employment opportunities. Outdoor activities are among the best in Michigan. Saugatuck’s art lovers don’t miss the Art Prize in Grand Rapids or visits to cultural offerings and museums in Kalamazoo. Kalamazoo has nine live theaters.

Sanctuary residents attend Douglas Elementary School, Saugatuck Middle School, and Saugatuck High School. The school district was rated by bridgemi.com 64 out of 540 in the state of Michigan. The curriculum includes conventional and online courses, along with a blend, plus tech center courses, and dual enrollment at participating colleges. Sports are among the many extra-curricular activities.
